What to charge
Setting the price is the part people put off. Here are two numbers: what sessions like yours already list for where you are, and what a price leaves in your account after the fees.
Held a Spot takes reservations and payments together, so you never have to ask. Your people know a paid spot is a held spot.
What sessions like yours list for
$20 to $28
a spot, for yoga in Chicago, Denver or Austin, in a room of about 18.
Published 2025 and 2026 list prices for group sessions and single workshops, with the published seat caps that go with them. That band is the middle of the index, and every other metro is scaled against it.
What that leaves you
$286
a session, at $24 a spot with 13 of 18 sold. You would keep 92% of what people paid.
- 13 paid spots at $24
- $312
- Stripe, estimated
- −$13
- Held a Spot, $1 a spot
- −$13
The arithmetic, written out
Take yoga in Chicago, Denver or Austin. Rooms like that list a spot at $20 to $28, and seat about 18 people.
At $24 a spot in a room of 18, seven in ten sold is 13 paid spots. 13 times $24 is $312 collected.
Stripe’s standard rate is 2.9% + 30¢ a payment, which on a $24 spot works out at $1. Across 13 payments, Stripe’s share is $13.
Held a Spot takes $1 for each paid spot. Across 13 spots, our share is $13.
So $312 collected, less $13 to Stripe and $13 to us, leaves $286 in your account. That is 92% of what people paid.
Only Stripe’s line is an estimate, at their published 2.9% + 30¢; your own rate depends on the card and on your agreement with them, and the exact figure is in your Stripe dashboard. Ours is $1 exactly. The count above is one payment per spot, which is the expensive way round — one person paying for several spots pays Stripe’s fixed part once — so a group booking comes out slightly better than this. And this is the share of what people paid, not your profit: the room, the materials and your time are not in it. More on the fee.
About the number
The range is what other people already charge for the same thing in the same kind of place. It is not a judgment about you, and it is not what anyone thinks you are worth. If your number sits under the low end, that is worth knowing before you commit to it rather than after a season of it.
The middle is a starting point, not a recommendation. Move it up for materials you buy, equipment you maintain, or a longer session. Move it down for a smaller room or a quieter time. Both are ordinary, and neither needs explaining to anyone.
Then you find out, which is faster than deciding. One session tells you more than a week of working it out, and the next one can be priced differently. Nothing here locks a number in.
Common questions
Where do these prices come from?
Published 2025 and 2026 list prices for group sessions and single workshops, together with the seat caps published beside them, scaled by a metro price index. They are advertised prices: what rooms put on a menu, rather than what any one of them takes at the door.
Why does the same session cost more in one city?
Because where the room is explains most of the difference. The same format lists 30% to 60% higher in the most expensive metros than in the middle band, which is why the tool asks where you are before it suggests anything.
Should I charge the middle of the range?
It is a starting point, not a recommendation. Move it up for materials, equipment or a longer session, and down for a smaller room or a quieter slot. The number you can say out loud without flinching is usually the right one to start at.
What comes out of each payment?
Stripe’s standard rate, and $1 for the spot. Both come out of the payment as it goes through, so there is no bill afterwards. $1 per paid spot, on top of normal card fees. No monthly bill.
Do I have to sign up to use this?
No, and there is nothing to close. A run records the activity and the metro you picked and a price band, never a name, an address or anything that identifies your browser. Leaving an email at the bottom is optional, and it is the only part that involves you at all. What that means in full.
When you want one of these to hold a spot
Price one session, connect Stripe, and share the link. Whoever pays is on your list.
