What it costs

There is one fee, and it only happens when somebody pays.

Held a Spot takes reservations and payments together, so you never have to ask. Your people know a paid spot is a held spot.

The fee

$1

$1 per paid spot, on top of normal card fees. No monthly bill.

One payment, all the way through

Somebody pays $20 for a spot. Stripe takes $0.88 at their standard 2.9% + 30¢ a payment, and we take $1 because the spot was paid for. $18.12 reaches your account, which is 91% of what that person paid.

Only Stripe’s line is an estimate. Your own rate depends on the card and on your agreement with them, and the exact figure is in your Stripe dashboard. Ours is $1 exactly, taken out of the payment as it goes through, so there is never an invoice for it. Work out a whole session.

When it reaches you

Somebody pays
The money is collected right then, before the session runs. You are never waiting to find out whether you were paid.
It clears
Two business days later it is ready to pay out.
Stripe sends it
Stripe pays out your available balance automatically on the schedule set in your account. The full Stripe Dashboard shows the payout status and expected date.
Your bank posts it
Your bank may take additional time after Stripe sends it. Stripe shows the expected date and status, including weekends and bank holidays where it can.

What there is no bill for

  • Months. There is no monthly charge, so there is nothing to cancel.
  • Setting one up. Pricing a session and getting its link costs nothing.
  • Empty spots. The fee counts paid spots, so a session nobody buys costs nothing.
  • A waitlist place, or someone saying they’re in. Neither is a payment.
  • Moving it, or rain. A change to a session you already ran the numbers on is free.

About the money

Is there a monthly fee?

No. $1 per paid spot, on top of normal card fees. No monthly bill. If you run nothing for six months, you are charged nothing for six months.

When is the dollar taken?

As the payment goes through, out of that payment. It is not invoiced later and it is not taken up front, so there is never a bill to reconcile against your list.

Who charges the card?

Stripe charges the payment directly to your Stripe account. Stripe collects its processing fee from that account, and we take $1 for the spot. You start payments from your setup page; card details, tax ID and bank details stay with Stripe. Your full Stripe Dashboard shows the balance, payouts, refunds and disputes.

What if I have to cancel the session?

Every paid spot is released and each payment becomes a separate replacement-spot credit toward your next session. If someone would rather have their money back, you manage that refund in Stripe. It returns to the original payment method, can remain pending or fail if your Stripe balance is short, and we never advance it. Our dollar is retained at launch. Under the launch policy, a successful Stripe refund voids the matching credit.

How long until the money reaches my bank?

You are paid when people book, not after the session, so the money is collected before you teach. The payment and its balance are in your Stripe account. Stripe deducts its processing fee there, pays out your available balance automatically on your account schedule, and shows the timing and status in your full Stripe Dashboard. Settlement and bank timing can vary. There is no custom hold from us and no fixed first-payout promise. Stripe may offer an instant payout for a fee if your account and debit card qualify. Stripe’s payout timing, in their words.

Which currencies work?

Today, US dollars. GBP, EUR, CAD, AUD are on the list and none of them work yet, so the price field will not let you pick one.
