How a spot gets held

Four steps, and the third one is a link you paste into a message you were sending anyway.

Held a Spot takes reservations and payments together, so you never have to ask. Your people know a paid spot is a held spot.

1. 01

   Price one session.

   Your name, what it is, the day and time, how many people fit, and what one spot costs. That is the whole form. If the price is the part you’re stuck on, there is a page for it.

2. 02

   Set up payouts.

   A button on your own page opens a Stripe form and creates the account behind it, so there is nothing to sign up for separately. The form asks for a tax ID and a bank account, which Stripe needs before money can move. All of it goes to Stripe. We never ask you for any of it and never see it.

3. 03

   Share one link.

   One link, for everybody. Whoever opens it sees the session, types a name, and pays. Nobody makes an account, downloads anything, or gets asked for a password.

   Read one list.

   The people who paid, in one place, with the count. You were paid before the day arrived, and what you plan around is a real number rather than a guess.

When something changes

It rains, or it moves

Save the change once. The session page updates, and so does the calendar of everyone who paid. Nobody loses a spot and no money moves.

You call the whole thing off

Every paid spot is released and each payment becomes a credit toward your next one. Nothing goes back to a card on its own, so if someone would rather have their money back, that is yours to settle with them directly.

Somebody drops out

They release their own spot, and their payment becomes a credit the same way. The spot opens again for whoever wants it.

It fills up

The page stops taking payments and offers a waitlist instead. A waitlist place holds nothing and charges nothing; if a spot opens, that person pays for it then.

What never takes a spot

An “I’m in” sitting in your messages. A thumbs up. A waitlist place. A checkout somebody started and walked away from. None of them move the count, because the count is payments.

A held spot is a fact about your list, not a promise about your door. People who paid still sometimes don’t turn up, and anyone who has run a session knows it. What changes is that you were paid first, and the number you plan around is the real one.
